Hoa Lu, Tam Coc, Mua Cave: The Ultimate Ninh Binh Day Trip

Your day begins with a comfortable pickup from your hotel in Hanoi's Old Quarter. The journey south to Ninh Binh is scenic, offering a glimpse of the changing landscapes from bustling city to peaceful countryside. We'll take a short break to stretch our legs before arriving at our first stop: Hoa Lu Ancient Capital.

Between the 10th and 11th centuries, Hoa Lu was the political and economic heart of Vietnam. Here, you'll visit the temples dedicated to the Dinh and Le dynasties, walking through history and learning about the feudal system that shaped the nation. The serene setting, with its ancient mossy stone and quiet courtyards, feels like a journey back in time.

Next, we'll swap our bus for bicycles for a leisurely ride around the village. This is your chance to get up close with the rural rhythm of life, pedaling along quiet paths surrounded by rice paddies and friendly locals. It’s a wonderfully authentic experience and a fantastic way to take in the fresh air and stunning scenery.

After working up an appetite, we’ll head to a local restaurant for a delicious buffet lunch. This isn't your average tour meal; the spread is designed with a "5-star style," offering a wide selection of local specialties. You can sample everything from the famous Ninh Binh goat meat and spring rolls to fresh fish and a variety of vegetables. Don't worry, there are plenty of vegetarian options available as well.

Recharged from lunch, we'll make our way to the highlight of the day: Tam Coc. Here, you will board a small bamboo boat rowed by a local, who skillfully navigates you through a mesmerizing landscape. For 1.5 hours, you'll float down a gentle river, passing through three magnificent caves carved into the limestone mountains, all while surrounded by vibrant green rice paddies. It is a truly magical and peaceful experience.

Our final stop is Mua Cave, also known as the "Lying Dragon Mountain." This is where you’ll earn the most spectacular view of the day. A climb of nearly 500 stone steps takes you to the summit, where a pagoda and a stone dragon statue await. From the top, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic vista of the entire Tam Coc valley—a sight so grand it’s worth every step.
